On 1 April, Hertfordshire Constabulary launched its Local Policing Command (LPC), providing a more efficient and effective way to oversee the delivery of local policing services across the county. Victims of crime and members of the public who make contact with us should not notice the changes which have been made to protect community policing and crime investigation at every level.
The LPC replaced the previous three area commands, which reduced duplication and complexity in how frontline officers and staff are managed and supported.

Chief Constable Frank Whiteley says:
"Over four thousand Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers, Police Staff and Volunteer Special Constables work round the clock for the safety, justice and reassurance of everyone in Hertfordshire. |

“Our Policing Pledge to you outlines what you can expect from us and what we are doing to keep your local neighbourhoods safe from harm. Hertfordshire is a safe county and in recent years, working with our partners, we have been able to drive down crime and disorder and bring to justice more and more offenders.
"We aim to build on this success and improve the quality of the service we provide for the people of Hertfordshire and those who travel through or work in our county.
"In particular, we need to make sure victims and witnesses are kept up to date and also build on our Safer Neighbourhoods initiative to not only make the county safer but to reassure people and make them feel safer as well." |
Round the clock more than 4,000 police officers police staff work hard to provide a policing service to the public of Hertfordshire, supported by more than 250 Specials.
Together we look at where we can make the most difference to improving the quality of everyone's lives, and creating a safer Hertfordshire.
In our work we put our communities first - we want to be there when victims need us the most and when criminals don't. But, most importantly, we want people to be safe and feel safe whether they are in their homes, on the streets or at work in our county.
The Constabulary polices an area of 632 square miles, with a population of well over a million. The mix of villages and towns, with some of the busiest roads in Europe, place a variety of demands on the police. The county's landscape is also diverse ranging from the urban borders of London to beautiful National Trust areas.
Headquarters in Welwyn Garden City provides a support and administrative function for the Constabulary and is the base for Chief Constable Frank Whiteley and his executive team. Policing of the county is overseen by the Local Policing Command (LPC) Team.
The Constabulary, policing style and organisation is designed to provide a modern, flexible force and an effective policing service for Hertfordshire.
More locally based Neighbourhood Teams work in local partnerships at ward district and borough council level.
Working with these other agencies and the public, we have achieved some excellent results. Our low crime rate means we are one of the safest counties in England and Wales.
Despite our successes we can't afford to be complacent. We have ambition and will continually seek improvement through listening and learning and looking hard at ways we can do our job better, so we can achieve safety, justice and reassurance for all communities. |
