If you think that a police officer or a member of the Constabulary has behaved incorrectly or unfairly, you have the right to make a complaint.
Hertfordshire Constabulary takes complaints from members of the public extremely seriously and we welcome feedback in order to improve the service that we provide.
Types of complaint
In addition to complaints about the specific conduct of individuals, complaints can also be made about the standard of general policing or operational policy i.e. Direction & Control complains or about an organisational support function. The method for making all types of complaint is the same.
Who can make a complaint?
You can make a complaint if you are a member of the public who:
- Has been the victim of the Misconduct i.e. directed at you
- Has witnessed or was affected by the Misconduct, even if it was not directed at you
- Is a friend, relative or representative of the above and you have their permission in writing to do so.
