Hertfordshire’s County Community Safety Unit, a joint
unit between Hertfordshire Constabulary and Hertfordshire County
Council wants you to enjoy a safe and great night out – but if you
don’t drink safely and sensibly, you could be putting yourself at
risk.
Did you know if you drink excessively, you could leave yourself
more vulnerable to regretful sex or even rape?

Don’t let a drunken mistake be a life-long hangover
The police take allegations of sexual assault and rape extremely
seriously and will always take action against those responsible.

If someone has not given their
consent for sex or touching you could be breaking the law and be
arrested.
Did you know you could lose your job and be placed on the sex
offenders register if convicted of rape or sexual assault?
Don’t drink excessively and stay in control of your actions.
Top tips for ensuring a great night out
There are lots of ways to ensure your night full of promise doesn’t
turn into a morning full of regret.
Drinking
sensibly:
- Alternating alcoholic drinks with
soft or low alcohol ones
- Drinking more slowly
- Consuming alcohol with food
- Don’t drink when you’re
stressed
Getting home
safely:
- Plan how you’re going to get home
before you go out
- Book a licensed taxi or agree to
be the designated driver and then don’t drink
- Use a taxi marshalling scheme if
there’s one in your town
- Never get into a stranger’s car or
with someone who has been drinking
- Never walk home alone and don’t
let your friends either
- Always dial
999 if you’re in immediate
danger
