Road Safety

Hertfordshire Constabulary is committed to reducing casualties and denying criminals the use of the roads. The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit (RPU) patrols the county’s roads 24/7 to ensure motorists adhere to the law and provide a response following collisions.

The aims of the RPU are:

  • To deny criminals the use of the roads.
  • Reduce casualties.
  • Tackle the threat of terrorism.
  • Reduce anti-social use of the roads.
  • Enhance public confidence and reassurance by patrolling the roads.

The RPU also runs enforcement and media campaigns throughout the year in order to raise public awareness of the dangers associated with drink or drug driving, use of mobile phones at the wheel, speeding and other behaviour that puts lives at risk.

You can receive updates about police road closures and road safety advice across Beds, Cambs and Herts by following the RPU’s Twitter account @roadpoliceBCH and within Hertfordshire on the Herts Police account @hertspolice.
