As well as this, the force's Architectural Liaison Officer and local crime prevention officers have received extensive training in the benefits of ‘designing out’ crime and ‘designing in’ security.

To be cost effective, consultations should be undertaken at the feasibility stage and certainly before planning applications are made. After that, it can become difficult to achieve real benefits and can be much more costly to put right. Like good health practice, prevention is shown to be better than a cure. If implemented successfully, crime prevention should at least make it more difficult for the offender to offend.
