Major Crime Unit Investigations

The Major Crime Unit brings
together the expertise of detectives from Bedfordshire,
Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.
The 182-strong dedicated team works across the three counties to
give greater capacity for responding to the most serious crimes,
such as murder and kidnap.
When you consider the levels of population in Bedfordshire,
Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, it is fair to point out that
major crimes of this kind are uncommon and that very few members of
the community will ever come into contact with detectives, officers
or staff from the unit.
However, the unit is very aware of the impact that this sort of
crime can have on the families and friends of those involved – as
well as the wider community. We work hard to provide support,
guidance and reassurance to anyone affected by such an event.
And of course, we strive to bring those responsible to justice.
It is made up of four teams led by Detective Chief Inspectors. A
fifth team is responsible for investigative support, including
major crime inquiry computer support, family liaison co-ordination
and cold case investigation.
If you have information about a major crime in your area contact
the unit on 101.
