Statistics show that Hertfordshire was one of the safest counties
in the Country
1/24/2013
Home Office national crime statistics released today show that
overall recorded crime in Hertfordshire continued to fall in the 12
months to July 2012. Crime levels in Hertfordshire remain
well below national levels and overall crime in the county is
falling faster than the national decrease.
In the 12 months to July 2012, recorded crime in Hertfordshire
fell by 10%, with dwelling burglary down 14%, vehicle crime down
11% and robbery down by 17%. Nationally recorded crime fell
by 7%, dwelling burglary down 7%, vehicle crime down 8% and robbery
down by 8%.
Rates of crime in the county compared to the national picture
also remained low across main crime types with Hertfordshire having
52 recorded offences per one thousand population compared to a
national rate of 68. Hertfordshire’s burglary crime rate
remains well below the national rate; 7 offences per one thousand
households compared to 10 nationally.
Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd said: “These figures
confirm that Hertfordshire is not only a low crime county but one
where crime is falling faster and further than elsewhere. It also
shows that crime can fall at the same time that budgets reduce. As
I have consistently said, it is not how much money you have but how
well you spend it. The taxpayer provides all of the funding for the
police service and they deserve excellent value. “
Chief Constable Andy Bliss said: “These are stunning, positive
figures. I would like to thank the public of Herts, who are our
greatest allies in the fight against crime, the other organisations
who work with us and, of course, the hard working officers, staff
and volunteers of Hertfordshire Constabulary.”
