Accreditation Schemes
The Chief Constable has accredited a number of organisations, giving them low-level powers. To become accredited, an organisation must achieve certain standards of operation and practice. Usually an accredited person will be carrying out visible uniformed patrols.

Extended police family
The extended police family includes Neighbourhood Team officers as well as the Special Constabulary, members of Accreditation Schemes, Neighbourhood Watch groups and the Police Community Volunteer Scheme. They all aim to make the community safer.

Neighbourhood Constable
A Neighbourhood Constable is a police officer who works in a Neighbourhood Team and patrols and deals with community issues in one or more wards.

Neighbourhood Team
A Neighbourhood Team includes Neighbourhood Constables, PCSOs and Neighbourhood Sergeants. It is led by a Neighbourhood Inspector. Each team covers a district or borough. In East Hertfordshire and North Hertfordshire there are two teams in each district. There are a total of 12 Neighbourhood Teams across Hertfordshire.

Safer Neighbourhood Team
A Safer Neighbourhood Team is responsible for patrolling and dealing with community issues for a small group of wards. There are several Neighbourhood Constables and PCSOs in a Safer Neighbourhood Team.
