Police Community Volunteers

police community volunteer scheme logo

Our Police Community Volunteers Scheme offers members of the public the chance to support the Constabulary and make a valuable contribution to the safety and security of their own community as well as developing new skills.

Our volunteers are not a substitute for officers or staff but help enhance our service to the community. We are building up a bank of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to carry out interesting tasks in many departments within the force.

Volunteers are now supporting our police officers and staff in a variety of interesting and valuable roles across Hertfordshire.

What can volunteers do ?

Police Community Volunteers can help out in all sorts of ways so you could find yourself involved in any number of support activities, from helping out your local neighbourhood police team to taking part in roleplay activities to assist the training of our student officers. Volunteer opportunities exist at Police Headquarters and most police stations across the county.

Wherever possible we will make sure that your skills match the task given to you. If you don’t have previous experience we will give you appropriate training and you will not be asked to do anything you are not qualified to do.

The scheme is flexible and it is up to you how much time you give to volunteering. You do not have to commit to a minimum numbers of hours and you don’t even have to volunteer at regular times each week.

When you apply we will discuss your commitments and match your availability to what is convenient for us.

Who can become a volunteer?

Anyone over the age of 18 can apply to become a Volunteer with us. We are looking for people with time to give and the enthusiasm to make a difference

What will I get in return?

We understand that your time is valuable and that there are many reasons for volunteering. In return we are committed to developing your skills as a Volunteer within our organisation and ensuring your volunteering experience is a positive one.

You will be given a full induction into the activities of Hertfordshire Constabulary and support and guidance from your Volunteer Coordinator and your team. You will get the opportunity to develop your interpersonal skills, meet new people and learn more about the work that we do.

Volunteering can look great on your CV and it can help you brush up on your skills and confidence, especially if you have been out of a work environment for while.

By giving our officers and staff extra support to do the best job they can you could see a real difference in your own community.
