The NaCTSO website provides details on how to secure your fertiliser and the advice and guidance given can certainly be used throughout the fertiliser supply chain.

It is supported by all of the UK’s farmers’ unions, together with UK fertiliser manufacturers, importers and numerous trade associations representing grain, dairy, beef and sheep farming.

Why securing your fertiliser is important: -

• Fertilisers might be misused, as an ingredient in home made explosives. This includes inorganic nitrogenous, ammonium nitrate and ammonium nitrate-based fertilisers.
• Fertilisers have been used by terrorists, both in the UK and overseas, to manufacture powerful explosives which have then been used in improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
