Intruders

Intruders entering your home whilst you are there are very uncommon. If an intruder does come into your home when you are home, it is more than likely that they are burglars looking for things to steal and want to avoid being confronted by you.

If you ever suspect an intruder in your home, you should;

  • get to a phone quickly and safely and call 999
  • use your judgement as to what action you could take to stay safe, but it is important to stay calm and not take any unnecessary risks
  • not leave a safe place to investigate. If you believe someone is in your home or in your garden, keep yourself safe by locking doors, if possible, and call us on 999.

It is generally best not to challenge an intruder, but the Home Office provides information about the law for self-defence.
