We are committed to improving the way we work and to working in a transparent way. The Use of Force Scrutiny Panel, which is made up of independent volunteers from the community, review the way our officers use force in the county.
The panel will meet bimonthly to review our use of force records.
Members of the panel will scrutinise the Constabulary’s use of force, which can include unarmed defence tactics, the use of physical restraint, such as handcuffs, and the use of other police equipment, such as incapacitant spray.
Random dip-samples will take place and the panel will then meet to look at the appropriateness of the use of force used.
By examining records, officer statements and body worn video footage, they will provide feedback to the force, highlighting any areas of concern or good practice.
The county wide panel will consist of members who live, work or study within Hertfordshire. As far as possible, the panel will represent the demographics of the county.
Membership will be annually reviewed to ensure the panel continues to represent the demographic.
Panel members will be vetted and are expected to regularly attend meetings.
All reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
If you are interested in joining the panel please contact Inspector Nicola Dean.
