  • Thankfully no knives were found during the searches

Officers from the Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have been carrying out knife sweeps across the borough this week.

The searches were carried out as part of Operation Sceptre, the nationwide week of action against knife crime.

Yesterday (Thursday 18 November), officers were out in the Aviation Avenue area of Hatfield while on Wednesday they focused on the town centre area of Welwyn Garden City.

Welwyn Hatfield SNT Inspector Andrew Palfreyman said: “I’m pleased to say that no knives were found during these sweeps. While we conducted these we also spoke to local residents who were reassured by our presence. I would like to reiterate to the public that we are committed to tackling knife crime.

“If you have information about someone carrying knives or are aware of anyone involved in knife crime you can report this by calling our non-emergency number 101.

“As part of Op Sceptre we’ve got a knife bin at Hatfield police station until Monday (22 November). Any knives in your possession that you do not want or should not have, can be surrendered there anonymously.”
