Over 40 bikes security marked across community engagement weekend

20 Jul 2021
  • The Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team hosted community engagement events on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July.

  • Over 40 bicycles were security marked by officers to help prevent theft.

  • Residents were also issued with crime prevention advice.

Forty-six bikes were security marked at the weekend as officers hosted two community engagement events in Hatfield.

Taking place on Saturday (17 July) outside Parkhouse Court and Sunday (18 July) outside the Co-op in Birchwood Avenue, the events were hosted by the Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).

The SNT are responsible for fixing short and long-term neighbourhood issues such as anti-social behaviour and they work with local partners, including the council, to ensure that Welwyn Hatfield is a safe place to live and work.

As well as getting their bikes security marked, residents were able to get crime prevention advice from their local officers.

Both events were free to attend and social distancing was adhered to.

PC Darren Turner, who organised the events, said: “It was great to meet so many local residents and find out about the issues affecting them.

“I’m glad we were able to help give residents peace of mind by security marking their bikes. Having your bike marked means it is less likely to be stolen as it deters thieves who want to sell the bikes on.

“If you weren’t able to make our events, it can be a good idea to register your bike (opens in a new window). This is a free online property database which we use to check stolen property. That way, if your bike does get stolen, you have more chance of it being returned to you.”
