25 Nov 2021
  • A 17 year old male from Watford has been charged and remanded in connection with a serious assault

  • A 19 year old man was left with stab wounds after the incident in the town centre on 13 October this year

  • The Local Crime Unit is continuing its investigation and appeal for information

A teenager has been charged and remanded in custody after a man was seriously assaulted in Watford town centre.

The 17 year old male, from Watford, has been charged with:

  • Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent (Section 18)
  • Attempted robbery
  • Possession of an offensive weapon

He has been remanded in custody and has since pleaded not guilty to all charges. A provisional trial date has been set for Monday 20 December at St Albans Crown Court.

The charges relate to an incident between 2pm and 2.30pm on Wednesday 13 October, in the underpass off St Albans Road – which runs alongside part of Essex Road.

The victim, a 19 year old man, was approached by three males who proceeded to stab him, leaving him with serious injuries that required hospital treatment.

Detective Constable Vishal Khanna, from the Watford Local Crime Unit, is investigating.

He said: “We have carried out a number of enquiries since this assault and we are pleased to have secured a charge and remand. However our investigation is still continuing and we are appealing to the public to share any information they have with us.

“Were you in the vicinity of the underpass at the time of the incident on 13 October? Did you see any suspicious activity?

“I am also interested to know if anyone driving in the area between the times stated, particularly in St Albans Road near the roundabout, St Johns Road, Frankland Road, Wellington Road, Westland Road, Essex Road or Malden Road, has captured anything of significance on their dash cams.

“If you have any information then please contact us as soon as possible.”
