A woman has been fined for gathering with friends and family in breach of the full Government lockdown restrictions earlier this year.

The 37 year old woman from North Watford appeared before St Albans Magistrates’ on Monday 12 October.

The court heard how on Saturday 25 April this year, officers were called to a report of a gathering at a house in Watford.

The country was in full lockdown measures at that time and officers had reason to believe the woman did not live at the address.

When questioned she became obstructive and attempted to flee before she was detained and arrested. Upon admitting she knew she wasn’t supposed to be there, the woman was de-arrested and issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for £60.

She had the opportunity to half the fine if she paid within 60 days of issue, but failed to do so.

During her court appearance she was told the cost of the fine had risen to £220, and was ordered to pay a further £90 in court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Watford Chief Inspector Ian Grout said: “This happened right in the middle of full lockdown, when the majority of us were missing out on seeing our loved ones because we were doing our bit to control the spread of the virus and protect our NHS.

“Sadly, there are always a few people who refuse to do the right thing so I am pleased to see that this woman has been fined for her actions. Such a lot has happened since April but we must not rest on our laurels. We must continue in our fight against coronavirus and this week, we are supporting our partners at Watford Borough Council with their COVID compliance week of action.

“It is vital that we all continue to do our bit and we will not hesitate to fine anyone who is not exempt and refuses to wear a face covering in public areas.”
