Keep your cars and possessions safe following recent thefts in St Albans

Detectives are investigating a series of thefts of cars and motorcycles and thefts from vehicles across the St Albans district.
Two vehicles have been stolen in St Albans and there has been 11 thefts from motor vehicles – five in London Colney, four in St Albans and two in Radlett (St Albans side) this week.
St Albans Detective Inspector Ady Lysak said: “We’ve seen an increase in thefts from motor vehicles and thefts of motor vehicles over the last few weeks. The most noticeable increase has been the theft of catalytic converters for their precious metal.”
He said: “To help prevent this, try not to park half on the pavement as it makes it easier for thieves to get underneath it and park near CCTV or doorbell cams. We’ve also seen thefts from motor vehicles – which include keys, passports and cash – this is easily preventable by securely locking your vehicles and removing all valuables. More than 95 per cent of opportunist burglars will move on if they find a door locked with nothing on display.”
He said: “Unfortunately, we’ve also had thefts of motor vehicles across the district, mostly targeting keyless vehicles. To help reduce the chance of your vehicle being stolen, place your keys in signal-blocking pouch, such as a faraday bag or a metal tin so that opportunist thieves are unable to send a signal to start the engine.”
