A St Albans man has been jailed for three and a half years after he burgled the home of an elderly woman in Bricket Wood.
Frank Donoghue, aged 40, of no fixed address, was sentenced at St Albans Court on Tuesday 1 November having previously pleaded guilty to burglary and possession of a Class A drug (Heroin).
The offences were committed while Donoghue was already on a suspended sentence.
The burglary occurred back in February of this year, when Donoghue broke into the home of a woman aged in her 90s and slept in a spare room overnight. She woke to find him in her bedroom and confronted him before he ran off, taking several items with him.
Forensic evidence left at the scene identified Donoghue as the suspect and he was subsequently arrested and charged.
Detective Sergeant Adam Haines, from the St Albans Local Crime Unit, said: “Burglary is extremely traumatic for victims and this incident has had a lasting impact on the elderly lady involved. The personal statement read out in court detailed just how much she had been affected by what had happened and I am pleased that Donoghue is now behind bars.”
