The Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team are hosting a bike-marking event in Hatfield this weekend.
The team will be in Parkhouse Court, between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday (1 October), offering free bike-marking and speaking to residents about any concerns they might have.
Bike-marking is encouraged by the police as a means of preventing bike theft. When a bicycle is security marked it becomes less attractive to thieves as it becomes harder to sell on. Security marking takes only a few seconds and gives the bike owner peace of mind.
PC Darren Turner, from the Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We’re encouraging residents to come along on Saturday and get their bikes security-marked.
“We’ll also be issuing crime prevention advice and helping with any concerns you want to raise.
“If you can’t make Saturday’s event, you can still make sure your bike is protected by registering it (opens in a new window). This is national database and it means that if your bike is lost or stolen, there is a better chance of you being reunited with it.”
