An investigation is underway following the discovery of a cannabis factory in Hatfield.
In the early hours of Sunday (23 April), officers from Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team, acted on intelligence received from members of the public and located a cannabis factory at an address in Cunningham Avenue. The team were assisted by colleagues from Intervention (who deal with 999 emergencies).
The set-up caused significant damage to the inside of the property as well as affecting the quality of life for other residents around the address. In total approximately 30 plants were located inside along with vast amounts of equipment.
An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing.
Sergeant Robert Wilson, from the Welwyn Hatfield West Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Cannabis factories like this not only pose an extreme safety risk and fire risk to residents nearby to addresses, but they are often associated with incidents of modern slavery, anti-social behaviour and exploitation of vulnerable people. It is important that if you suspect an address is being used to grow cannabis or prepare drugs you contact the police.”
