The Borehamwood and Elstree Safer Neighbourhood Team has been successfully working with local residents to tackle anti-social behaviour in Cardinal Avenue, Whitehouse Avenue and Almond Way in Borehamwood.
Residents reported feeling concerned about an increase in anti-social behaviour and so this was made a local neighbourhood priority.
Neighbourhood Team Sergeant, Matt Cann said: “Following an increase in local criminal activity in the area, including theft from motor vehicles and doors being damaged, the residents arranged a meeting with us and local councillors to discuss how we could work together to identity those involved and prevent further problems.
“This was made a neighbourhood priority for three months so we could focus our efforts on tackling the issues raised and reassure local residents affected. A range of initiatives were mutually agreed including reporting of any crime/incident and door to door conversations with all residents to reassure and sign them up to OWL*.”
Over 75 properties have been signed up to the OWL* (Online Watch Link) messaging system allowing them to now receive emails from the Safer Neighbourhood Team about what they are doing to tackle the issue and provide timely updates.
The team have also carried out regular foot and bike patrols in the area.
Ann Joyce, co-ordinator of Residents Committee said: "Our concerns and fears were taken seriously by both the police and the council which was reassuring. To be listened to and more importantly heard was important to residents. Local crime will never cease but as a local community looking out for each other and knowing we can call on the police and the council to revisit if needed, is a major step in the right direction."
