Officers from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage, following a fatal collision on A120 at Standon Hill.
At around 1pm on Saturday 5 August, a white Ford transit flatbed lorry was travelling on the westbound carriageway, when is strayed onto the opposite carriageway colliding with a pink Kia Picanto.
The air ambulance attended the scene, but the driver of the Picanto, an 81 year old lady from Ware, sadly died from injuries she received in the collision.
The driver of the transit, a 42 year old man from Frinton on Sea in Essex, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving whilst over the prescribed limit for drink and drugs.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the driver at this tragic time, who are being supported by specialist officers.
“We are appealing for anyone who was driving in the area at the time and witnessed the white flatbed lorry being driven prior to the collision, to get in touch with us as soon as possible, if they have not already done so. We are particularly interested in anyone who had a dash cam in operation at the time.”
Anyone with information is asked to please email DS Craig Wheeler (opens in a new window).
