Thinking of a job change? You could make a genuine, positive difference to people affected by crime.
Chloe joined the Witness Care team at Hertfordshire Constabulary two years ago as she was seeking a new challenge and a career change from her previous administration role.
“I think the role appealed to me as you are dealing with victims and witnesses who have been affected by crime and they need someone to support them and speak to,” recalled Chloe: “I like that I talk them through the whole criminal justice process, ensuring I offer support when needed, for example with special safeguarding measures if they are required to attend court for a trial.”
As a Witness Care Officer, her job is to liaise with the courts, Crown Prosecution Service and police officers to ensure that victims and witnesses of crime are supported, updated on outcomes and safeguarding needs are reviewed. Chloe explained: “We carry out several administrative roles, including updating victims and witnesses by letter, email and phone. I am the single point of contact for the individuals within the cases allocated to me.
“I like my job as I am offering support to victims and witnesses and I’m there for them every step of the way,” she continued. “By being their point of contact and answering any questions they may have, I try to help them get the best possible outcome in a bad situation. It is a very rewarding job as you feel like you are making a difference to them and the community.”
Chloe finds the office is a friendly environment, which makes the job easier as it can be a demanding and challenging role: “We all support each other working well as a team and jump into other tasks when needed.”
Chloe added: “I would recommend the role as it is rewarding and is something different, no day is the same and I feel it has boosted my confidence as I have learnt a lot in the short space of time. This has allowed me to develop my skills and there is the opportunity to progress further within Hertfordshire Constabulary.”
