Watford police cadet recruitment now open

Do you know a young person in Watford who is looking for a new challenge or volunteering opportunity? If so, joining the Volunteer Police Cadet scheme could be the perfect option!

The programme is open to anyone aged between 13 and 18 who lives or goes to school in Hertfordshire.

As well as learning about police procedures and the law, cadets also play a vital role in community events, engaging with members of the public and educating them on crime prevention. During their sessions, which are usually held once every two weeks, cadets receive talks and demonstrations from serving police officers and get inputs from other emergency services.

Specialist departments such as the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Armed Policing Unit and Dog Unit also give regular talks.

There is also the opportunity to take part in a range of social and exciting outdoor activities such as white-water rafting, weekend holidays and summer camps, court visits and foot patrols at local music festivals.

Police Support Volunteer Stephanie May said: “Cadet groups are led by Police Officers, PCSOs and volunteers who support young people in their development. The groups are open to all, and you do not have to have ambitions to work within the police force.

“Being part of a cadet group is also a fantastic asset to have on your CV or university application. If you know a young person who is looking for new challenges and experiences, please let them know that we’re recruiting.”
