The Welwyn Hatfield South Safer Neighbourhood Team carried out an operation on Wednesday (31 May) as part of their commitment to tackle speeding in the villages of Welham Green, Brookmans Park and Cuffley.
Officers spent the morning in The Ridgeway (Cuffley), Cumcum Hill (Essendon) and Dixons Hill Road (Welham Green) conducting speed checks.
Speeding in the three villages is currently one of the South team’s priorities, along with burglaries - particularly in Northaw and Cuffley.
During Wednesday’s operation, the majority of drivers were found to be sticking to the speed limits.
However, in Dixons Hill Road – which has a speed limit of 30mph - one driver was found to be driving at 39mph. They were given words of advice and issued with a warning letter.
PC Marianne Broughton said: “We hope residents feel reassured that we are working hard to tackle the issue of speeding and I would like to take this opportunity to remind drivers of the speed limits in these roads.
“The Ridgeway has a speed limit of 40mph, Cumcum Hill has a speed limit of 60mph and Dixons Hill Road is 30mph.
“Whilst the majority are abiding by the limits, I want to make a plea to those who are not. Please consider the consequences that your dangerous driving may have. Speeding is one of the leading causes of road deaths and there is absolutely no excuse to drive fast and take that risk. A reckless decision to speed could end up costing the life of another, and ruining so many other lives too - including yours.”
