Officers reassure residents at beat surgery

E-scooters, drug dealing and fraudulent emails were just some of the topics officers offered reassurance on at the latest South Hatfield beat surgery.

The Welwyn Hatfield Safer Neighbourhood Team have been hosting regular beat surgeries at the community café in St John’s Church, High View and on Wednesday (26 April) they met again with local residents.

There was a high turnout and residents raised a number of topics to discuss with PCSOs Joanne Woods and Nick Doe. These included e-scooters, drug dealing, fraudulent emails, litter and nuisance car noise.

PCSO Woods said: “We were really pleased with the turnout for Wednesday’s event. It’s so important that residents engage with us so that we know what to prioritise. I’d like to thank all those who came along.

“We gave advice on how to spot scam emails and what to do if you are sent one. We also explained the work we are doing to tackle local drug dealing.

“Residents also wanted to talk about e-scooters and I would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that it is currently illegal to ride these vehicles throughout Welwyn Hatfield. They can only be ridden on private land with the landowners permission, or in areas taking part in government trials.

“If you were unable to make Wednesday’s event, don’t forget you can check out our top crime prevention tips on our website.”
