High Sheriff visits Crucial Crew project in St Albans

The High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Liz Green visited the Crucial Crew project at St Albans fire station on Monday (2 October).

The multi-agency scheme involving police, the fire and rescue service and St Albans city and district council and Oaklands College is a two-week personal safety and crime prevention project geared towards year 6 pupils, aged 10 to 11, at 20 schools across the St Albans district.  

PCSOs Chris Stokes (pictured centre) and Matt Bennett have been speaking to students about anti-social behaviour, drugs and knife crime whilst other partners have been covering topics including mental health, fire hazards, first aid, cyber bullying and road and water safety. 

PCSO Stokes said: “I was able to show the High Sheriff around explaining what scenarios we have for the school students, how the other agencies and Oaklands College students assist and how we work with St Albans Council and the Fire Service to bring the event together. She viewed all the scenarios and said how important and great she thought the project was. She seemed to particularly like the police ASB scenario which we have made interactive as she could see how the students reacted whilst offering practical help.”

The Principal of Oaklands College also visited.
