Witnesses sought following acid attack in Borehamwood

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an acid attack in Borehamwood.

The incident occurred between 9.30pm and 9.50pm on Monday (23 October) in the Eldon Avenue area.

Police were called to reports of a man banging on doors in the area, and when officers arrived at the scene the victim was washing his face with water.

Reportedly, the victim was riding on a bicycle heading towards Aberford Park when he was approached by someone. The suspect has then sprayed what was suspected sulphuric acid into the victim’s face, causing minor injuries to his eyes and lips.

Detective Inspector Beth Hanna of Hertsmere Local Crime Unit, who is investigating, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to please report information to police.

“If you were driving on the roads surrounding the park at the time stated, and have a dashcam, please check your footage to see if you captured anything that may support our investigation. I would also like to ask any local residents to check any CCTV or doorbell camera footage they may have to see if it has recorded anything.

“I also want to reassure the community that we are taking this matter very seriously and I can understand how concerning this may be for residents.

“I am doing everything I can to trace the suspect responsible for the attack.”
