A woman has been charged in connection with an alleged distraction burglary in Buntingford, where an elderly and vulnerable victim was targeted.
A woman has been charged in connection with an alleged distraction burglary in Buntingford, where an elderly and vulnerable victim was targeted.
On Thursday 13 April, police were called to report that a bank card and cheque book were missing from an address in the town.
Enquiries revealed that transactions totalling more than £250 had been made in Nottinghamshire. Attempts were also made to cash several cheques, but these were blocked by the bank.
It was reported that an unknown woman had knocked at the victim’s door two days prior to the items being discovered as missing, offering products for sale. The victim had left the front door open while she went upstairs to find some cash to purchase the items.
An extensive investigation was launched by detectives from the East Herts Local Crime Unit and a woman was subsequently arrested in North Wales.
Lyndsey Melvin, aged 32, from Rosedale Avenue in Middlesbrough, has been charged with burglary and nine counts of fraud by false representation.
She appeared before Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 21 September where she was bailed. She is next due to appear before St Albans Crown Court on Thursday 19 October.
