A donation of over £350 has been made to a police charity thanks to the generosity of visitors to Hatfield police station’s Bunker museum.
The Bunker, which launched on site in 2022, is a unique community engagement space that showcases the aviation history of Hatfield police station.
Whilst the core aim is to build the trust of local children who visit as part of school trips, the museum hosts regular open days for the public throughout the year.
The Bunker is free of charge for all attendees however there is a voluntary donation box with proceeds going to The Thin Blue Line charity.
The Thin Blue Line was set up after the murders of police officers Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone in Greater Manchester in 2012. Its main aim is to support the mental health and wellbeing for police officers in the UK.
Police Support Volunteer Alistair Hodgson is the Curator at The Bunker. He said: “We’re delighted to be able to donate a total of £351 to The Thin Blue Line and it’s all thanks for the generosity of local people in Welwyn Hatfield paying a visit to our museum.
“With police officers risking their lives everyday to keep the public safe, this charity is certainly a very worthy cause. From all of us at Hatfield Police Station we would like to thank the public for their kind support and we look forward to seeing more of you at our open days.”
Gary Craig, Founder and Chair of the Thin Blue Line charity, said: “This is the second donation we have received from the Hatfield Bunker museum and we are absolutely delighted to be considered. We never underestimate the generosity of people and we are very grateful to all the patrons who donated.
“This will help us as we continue to raise awareness around mental health issues suffered by many officers and be able to support them when they reach out to us. Policing is a difficult profession and it’s vitally important that we look after our officers, this will help a small charity in doing just that so thank you.”
