A man, arrested in a vehicle suspected of being involved in two shoplifting offences, is due to appear at St Albans Magistrates Court on Tuesday (December 3).
The vehicle was spotted and stopped by Harpenden neighbourhood policing officers on the B197 Great North Road on 18 November.
Riyas Zafeer, age 41, of Littlefield Road in Edgeware was travelling in the vehicle at the time and was promptly arrested. He has been charged with two shoplifting offences.
Ninety-six bottles of Bailey’s worth £2,107.20 were stolen from Sainsbury’s in High Street in Harpenden on 17 November and 18 November.
A dedicated team of plain clothed and high-visibility officers have been working with security staff at shops in Harpenden and the rest of the St Albans district to target known prolific offenders and opportunist thieves.
