Two men were arrested yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 18 December) following a foot chase through Stevenage town centre.
At around 3pm Operation Scorpion Officers were on routine patrol in the town, when they spotted some males acting suspiciously.
A foot pursuit ensued with response and neighbourhood officers lending a hand, along with a police dog and handler. Officers from the Firearms Unit were also in attendance.
During the chase items were discarded, which were later recovered with the help of the police dog. Despite trying to evade officers, they weren’t quite quick enough, and the men were eventually caught in Fairlands Way and by the ‘duck pond’ and taken to custody.
A 24 year old man from Edgeware and a 19 year old man from Hatfield were arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article and possession with intent to supply class B drugs. They have been released on police bail while the investigation continues.
Commenting on the arrest Chief Inspector Graeme Walsingham said: “Our teams of detectives, Operation Scorpion, response and neighbourhood officers, are constantly working together, along with our specialist teams -making arrests and removing weapons from the streets, to keep residents and visitors to Stevenage safe.
“Our work relies on information from the community, so please keep reporting.”
