A man has been charged with possession of cannabis after he was stopped by officers on patrol in Hatfield Garden Village.
Anthony Eves, aged 44, of Drovers Way in Hatfield, was arrested in Tamblin Way shortly after 1.30am on Thursday (8 February).
Officers from Operation Scorpion had been carrying out patrols to tackle vehicle interference when they spotted Eves cycling towards a male on an e-scooter. The pair made off and were pursued by the officers on foot.
Officers from the Intervention Team who were nearby also arrived at the scene to help.
Eves was subsequently arrested after being found with a bag of cannabis in his pocket which officers then seized. Despite their best efforts, the second man was not traced but his e-scooter was seized after being found abandoned.
Detective Inspector Bianca Broadbent, from the Welwyn Hatfield Local Crime Unit, said: “The harm that drugs have on communities cannot be underestimated and I hope this news reassures locals that we are serious about tackling it.
“This should also be a reminder to the public that it is illegal to ride an e-scooter on a public road.
“My officers have been carrying out regular patrols in Hatfield Garden Village to tackle vehicle interference and we will continue working hard to stamp out crime and keep you safe. I encourage residents to take the time to look at the crime prevention advice we have on our website.”
