‘People who look after us’ - Reception pupils enjoy police visit

Reception pupils at St Philip Howard Primary School in Hatfield had a fun visit from their local police officers on Thursday 8 February.

The Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) received an invite from the school as part of the children’s ‘People who look after us’ topic.

PCSOs Anne Devine and Shannon Payne were delighted to go along and meet the children. They even brought a police car along for the children to enjoy!

Engaging with the local community is a vital component of the NPT’s work. As traditional ‘bobbies on the beat’, they help build relationships between the police and local community so that people feel confident approaching officers for help.

PCSO Anne Devine said: “It was a pleasure meeting the pupils at St Philip Howard Primary School. We chatted to them about our work helping people in the community and they had lots of questions for us! The children got to try on the uniform and hats and explored the police car too.

“When PCSO Payne and I arrived we were greeted by an impressive crime scene display in their classroom! The children had their own police notebooks too and had been practicing taking fingerprints. We were pleased to help bring their topic to life!”
