Man charged in connection with serious assault – Rickmansworth

A man has been charged in connection with a serious assault in Rickmansworth which left the victim with life-changing injuries.

Carl Nanton, aged 49, of Ebury Road in Rickmansworth, has been charged with witness intimidation in connection with the incident that occurred on Tuesday 12 December 2023.

He has been released on bail with strict conditions; he must wear an electronic tag, adhere to a curfew, and not enter Rickmansworth. He is next scheduled to appear at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court on Monday 4 March.

Detectives from the Three Rivers Local Crime Unit began an investigation after a man was seriously assaulted in Meadow Way, leaving him with facial and neck injuries consistent with being stabbed. He was treated in hospital and is now recovering. He and his family continue to be supported by both officers and Beacon, Hertfordshire’s Victim Care Centre (opens in new window).

Detective Sergeant Darren Machin, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re glad to share this positive update with the public, as this was a brutal attack which occurred in broad daylight. We are continuing to support the victim and his family as the investigation progresses.

“This is a complex case with several lines of enquiry, and we ask the public not to speculate on social media as this could prejudice proceedings. We hope to provide a further update in due course.”

The team are continuing to appeal for the public’s help to trace the driver of a white Audi 4x4 that was in the area at the time of the assault, as they believe they could be a key witness. The previous appeal can be found on the Herts Police website (opens in new window).

• A man aged in his 40s from Rickmansworth has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in connection with this investigation. He has been released on strict conditional bail while enquiries continue.
