A man has been sentenced to 8 years and 3 months in prison in connection with non-recent sexual assaults.
An investigation led by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Non-Recent Sexual Offences Investigation Team led to David James, aged 66, of Green Close, Dursley in Gloucestershire being charged with eight counts of indecent assault.
The incidents occurred in Gloucestershire between March 1976 and March 1980 and were all against two girls that were under the age of 16.
Although these incidents occurred in Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire Constabulary received the first reports of these crimes and over time developed a good rapport with the victims and it was deemed right that the case continued to be investigated by the force.
James pleaded guilty to all counts he was accused of prior to sentencing.
On Friday 28 June, James was sentenced to a total of 6 years and 3 months imprisonment with an extended license of 2 years.
Detective Constable Jason Tinsey, from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Sexual Offences Investigation Team said: “The bravery shown by the victims during this process has been incredible and I thank them for their courage in reporting David James’ crimes.
“This trial would have been difficult for the two victims discussing incidents that have had long-lasting impacts on them, but I hope that seeing James brought to justice with a lengthy sentence brings closure and helps them move forward with their lives.”
Becoming a victim of sexual assault is never your fault. If you’ve been a victim, no matter how long ago the offence occurred, please report it.
