A man has been jailed after being convicted of stalking a woman in Buntingford.
Foyzur Rahman, aged 33, of no fixed abode, appeared at St Albans Crown Court today (Thursday 9 May).
He was given a 17 month custodial sentence for stalking involving serious alarm/distress.
The court heard that at around midday on Thursday 21 March, the victim had been walking with her child along the High Street when she noticed a man following her.
She called the police and officers quickly located and arrested Rahman. He was charged the following day and remanded into custody.
Detective Constable Clare Halfpenny, from the East Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim and I am glad that we have got justice for her.
“In East Herts, and across the county, we are committed to tackling violence against women and girls. We take any reports of this nature extremely seriously and officers got to the scene straight away to find and arrest Rahman. I hope this, along with the news of the prison sentence, is reassuring to the public – especially, women and girls.
“As well as going to prison, Rahman has been given a 10 year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim. He is also banned from Buntingford.
“This incident will no doubt stay with the victim for a long time but I hope today’s outcome provides some comfort.”
