A person was arrested during a warrant on Friday 22 November in Hoddesdon.
Broxbourne’s Local Crime Unit carried out a search warrant at an address in Waterfall Close. A 41-year-old man from Hoddesdon was arrested, on suspicion of keeping a brothel for prostitution, modern slavery offences and possession of Class B drugs (cannabis). A large amount of cash was also recovered from the address.
During the operation two women were spoken to at the address and were assessed for safeguarding support.
Detective Constable Elaine Adams, from the Broxbourne Local Crime Unit, said: “This operation was intelligence led and whilst it is often difficult to recognise, we need people to be aware of the signs that someone is being exploited and report their suspicions. Whilst not all sex workers are victims of exploitation, many are vulnerable and are more at risk of exploitation.
“Sexual exploitation is a serious and often hidden crime, which we believe is under-reported in Hertfordshire, as many people do not recognise the signs. If you have suspicions about a property in your area, you should report your concerns.”
Anyone with concerns about human trafficking or modern slavery should call police via 101 or the national Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700. In an emergency call 999. The Beacon hotline 03000 11 55 55 is open from Monday to Friday 8am-8pm and Saturday 9am-5pm.
