Senior police officers lent their support to the Soroptimists’ Orange the World event at St Albans Museum and Gallery on Monday (25 November).
Orange the World coincides with 16 Days of Activism to end violence against women and girls (VAWG), which runs until Tuesday 10 December.
The campaign highlights the sad fact that women are statistically more likely to come to harm than men.
Assistant Chief Constable Genna Telfer attended with the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Annie Brewster and other special guests from several organisations including the County Council, Hertfordshire University, secondary schools, churches, local businesses, pubs, shops, offices, town and city councils, councillors and members of the public.
In attendance from Herts Police were Temporary Sergeant Lisa Marshall and PCs Jade Mole, PC Ciara Quinn, Jo Busch, Clare Lapenna, Dani Howlett-Bolton and Emma Scott.
St Albans Intervention Temporary Sergeant Lisa Marshall, who is chair of the St Albans VAWG panel, said: “This event was a great opportunity for local officers to meet members of our community and discuss how we can tackle VAWG together.
“It is extremely important that we continue to raise awareness and provide support around VAWG. The theme of Orange the World’s campaign this year is ‘call it out’ which highlights the importance of challenging and reporting offences. We will continue to work with our partner agencies and members of the public to help prevent VAWG from happening in the first place and support those who have been subjected to abuse.”
Members of the public can get involved by joining the force’s independent advisory group, informing the policing response to VAWG with real lived experiences and perspectives. To find out more go to Join our Independent Advisory Group (IAG) | Hertfordshire Constabulary (herts.police.uk)
