Officers have hosted another successful open day at The Bunker museum in Hatfield Police Station.
The Bunker, which is situated in the station’s basement, celebrates the Grade II listed building’s heritage as a former aircraft factory. It was created as a public engagement initiative to foster better relations between the police and the local community, particularly schoolchildren.
On Saturday (16 November), more than fifty locals flocked to Hatfield Police Station as the doors to The Bunker were opened.
The visitors were given a tour of the free museum and had the opportunity to handle historical artefacts from the war. There was also a chance to explore some of the modern equipment used by police.
In addition to enjoying what the museum has to offer, the visitors were able to speak to local officers about police matters and gain crime prevention advice.
PCSO Anne Devine, from the Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We always enjoy opening our doors for locals to come along and see The Bunker. This was another busy open day and everybody had a great time.
“Our visitors were able to learn about the station’s incredible history through the various photos, historical items, original film footage, dioramas and models we have on show.
“Most importantly, it gave locals the chance to meet us in an informal setting so that they could chat through any concerns on local policing and share feedback.
“For more information about The Bunker, please visit Hatfield bunker website. Our December open day is already fully booked but there is still some space for our open day on Saturday 18 January. Please go to our website to book your space and make sure to specify how many people you are booking for. Unfortunately we cannot take walk-ins on the day, but we will be announcing more dates in due course. We look forward to welcoming you.”
