Closer working with Stevenage taxi drivers was one of the topics discussed when Senior Licensing Officer Gill Akroyd joined a recent taxi driver forum to share advice and information around ‘spotting the signs’ and reporting potential crimes.
Gill met with taxi proprietors, drivers, and private hire drivers at the council office on Thursday 31 October to talk about drink spiking, vulnerability and child sexual exploitation, including what to do if they think someone is being exploited or needs help. She also spoke about the Ask Angela and Ask Clive campaigns and how Project Vigilant is working in Stevenage.
Gill also covered taxi driver safety and measures that could be introduced to enhance this and protect drivers further.
“Taxi drivers are key to safeguarding our communities particularly women,” said Gill.
“They are our eyes and ears on the ground and need to know how to spot the red flags and when they need to contact us. They really appreciated our input, and we are looking to set up further meetings and implement safeguarding measures for them.”
