Volunteer Police Cadets join Remembrance parade in London

Volunteer Police Cadets from East Herts had the privilege of taking part in the Remembrance Parade at the Cenotaph in London at the weekend.

Seven cadets and two leaders from the group were selected to attend and travelled up to Horse Guards Parade on Sunday (10 November).

They marched with more than 10,000 veterans in front of the His Majesty the King and took the salute from His Majesty the Prince of Wales.

Cadet leader Sergeant Katie Selby said: “We were extremely privileged to be chosen to represent the wider National Volunteer Police Cadet team and spend Remembrance Day in the presence of so many inspirational people. Our cadets are a real credit to the constabulary and have been praised for their exemplary behaviour.”

Tim Mann MBE, from the National Volunteer Police Cadets, said: “Every year the Royal British Legion invites us to send a small select group of Volunteer Police Cadets from force areas around the UK to march as our combined national representative unit at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, on Remembrance Sunday.

“This year (with four other VPC groups), I am so proud we had the fantastic Hertfordshire VPCs who were exemplary, expertly led by Sgt Katie Selby and PC Grace Menhinick, two very experienced and busy operational officers, who also give back so much as cadet leaders.

“The cadets had a very early start, but were keen, ready and very smart on parade for the entire event. They were outstanding representatives for Volunteer Police Cadets nationally and Hertfordshire Constabulary specifically, in front of HM The King, HM The Prince of Wales and 10,000 incredible Veterans.

“Thank you, Herts VPC and all our cadets, at the Cenotaph, on local parades across the county and everyone who took part. You make us all proud.”

In addition to the parade in London, East Herts Cadets also had more than 40 representatives at the Remembrance events in Hertford and Bishop’s Stortford, with a dozen leaders in support.
