Woman convicted of murder after altercation in Welwyn Garden City

A woman has been found guilty of murder today (Thursday 14 November) following a stabbing in Welwyn Garden City.

Tuche Coskun, aged 22, of Central Avenue, Enfield appeared at St Albans Crown Court for a murder trial which lasted just over two weeks.

After being sent out to deliberate the decision on Monday 13 November, the jury came to a unanimous verdict today. Coskun was found guilty of one count of murder and not guilty in relation to grievous bodily harm.

Ahead of the trial, Coskun had pleaded guilty to two counts of being in possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (cocaine and heroin).

The court heard that police were called to a disturbance at an address in Linkfield just before 3am on Sunday 19 May 2024. Colleagues from both the ambulance and air ambulance service also attended.

Despite best efforts by the emergency services, 42-year-old Gavin Hubbard – who was known to Coskun - was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “Firstly, I would like to extend my sympathy to the family of Gavin Hubbard who sadly lost his life in this incident.

“They have been patient and dignified as this investigation and court process has progressed, and no family should have to go through this pain.

“This was a challenging investigation, and I am grateful to the jury for reaching their verdict on this case.

“We have a zero tolerance to knife crime in Hertfordshire and we will use the full force of the law with such criminals.”

Coskun will be sentenced on 16 January 2025 at St Albans Crown Court.
