Officers are appealing for information, witnesses and dash cam footage following an incident in Hitchin yesterday (Friday 6 September).
Shortly before 3pm, police were called to a report of an altercation involving two men who were driving in Moss Way.
It was reported that one of the drivers was possibly in possession of a firearm.
Officers attended the scene, with support from the Armed Policing Unit, as a precaution.
A man aged in his fifties was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He has been bailed while enquiries continue.
Detective Constable Beth Talbot, from the North Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “We are appealing for information and any witnesses who saw what happened. The cars involved were a grey Renault Clio (16 plate) and a black BMW convertible (2009 plate).
“Did you see these vehicles in the area? Perhaps you captured them on dash cam? Please do check your footage if you were driving in the area and let us know if you did capture them.
“If you saw what happened or have any information that could help, please email me quoting crime reference 41/74288/24.”
