A man has been arrested during an operation targeting organised crime in Watford.
The arrest occurred when a search warrant was carried out on Tuesday (17 September) as part of an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary’s specialist organised crime team, Operation Relentless.
During the search an active firearm was recovered from an address in North Watford and Mark Brummitt, aged 21, of Gossamers, Watford, was arrested and later charged with possession of a prohibited weapon. Brummitt appeared at court on 18 September and was remanded into custody.
A spokesperson from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Operation Relentless team, said: “Following the increase in violent crime in Watford, particularly that involving firearms, the Operation Relentless team has been carrying out an investigation into the organised crime networks operating in the town.
“Whilst we have no evidence that there are any links between this operation and the recent gun crime in the town, we are working to identify those involved and pursuing anyone involved in organised and violent crime. We rely on information from the public so anyone with information that could help us prevent further violence is asked to make contact with us, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
