Five arrested after warrants in Watford

Police were up with the lark in Watford today (28 February) as they executed five early morning search warrants simultaneously across the town.

The operation – led by Watford’s Scorpion Team – was in response to intelligence and residents’ concerns about suspected drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

Officers forced entry to five addresses under Section 8 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, supported by colleagues from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, Operational Support Group, Digital Media Investigation Team and the tri-force Dog Unit.

Four of the addresses were in Sydney Road, and the fifth was in Raphael Drive. Cannabis, phones, cash, weighing scales and packaging were recovered.

The following five people were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug:

  • A 27 year old man from Watford
  • A 42 year old man from Watford
  • A 34 year old man from Watford
  • A 28 year old man from Watford
  • A 22 year old man from Watford

All five remain in police custody.

Prior to the warrants this morning, Watford Chief Inspector Andy Wiseman and the town’s MP Matt Turmaine attended the officer briefing at the police station on George Street to discuss the ongoing work that is being done to crack down on drug crime in the town.

PC Richard Fielding, from Watford’s Operation Scorpion Team, said: “This morning’s activity is a continuation of our work to combat drug-related crime in Watford, which we know first-hand has a detrimental impact on both those involved and innocent parties who live nearby.

“If you have any information or concerns about this type of crime, please continue to report them to us. Every call helps us to build an intelligence picture for us to take action. Information can also be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
