Officers have hosted another successful open day at The Bunker museum in Hatfield Police Station.
The Bunker, which is situated in the station’s basement, celebrates the Grade II listed building’s heritage as a former aircraft factory. It was created as a public engagement initiative to foster better relations between the police and the local community, particularly schoolchildren.
Locals flocked to the station on Comet Way for the latest open day event on Saturday 18 January.
Visitors were given a free tour of the museum and had the opportunity to handle historical artefacts from the war. They also had a chance to explore some of the modern equipment used by police.
In addition, local officers were on hand to speak to visitors about current police matters and offer crime prevention advice.
PCSO Anne Devine, from the Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Everybody had a great time at our most recent open day at The Bunker. Our visitors learned about the station’s incredible history through the various photos, historical items, original film footage, dioramas and models we have on show.
“Most importantly, it gave locals the chance to meet us in an informal setting so that they could chat through any policing concerns as well as offer feedback.
“In addition to our monthly open days, we’re always keen for local community groups to come and visit us at The Bunker, so if you think your organisation would enjoy the museum then please get in touch. Visits must be pre-booked; for more information and to book an open day or group visit, please visit the Hatfield bunker website (opens in a new window). We look forward to welcoming you.”
