Man charged in connection with East Herts robbery series

A man has been charged in connection with a series of robberies at bookmakers in East Herts.

An extensive investigation was launched by the constabulary’s Specialist Investigation Team (SIT) following three robberies in Hertford and an attempted robbery in Ware.

A man was subsequently arrested on Monday 3 February.

Graham Radcliffe, aged 37, of Bircherley Green, Hertford, has been charged with:

• Robbery and possession of imitation firearm whilst committing a schedule 1 offence, in connection with an incident at William Hill in Maidenhead Street, Hertford, on Saturday 25 January.
  
  
• Robbery and possession of imitation firearm whilst committing a schedule 1 offence, in connection with an incident at Ladbrokes in Maidenhead Street, Hertford, on Monday 27 January.
  
  
• Robbery and possession of imitation firearm whilst committing a schedule 1 offence, in connection with an incident at Ladbrokes in Maidenhead Street, Hertford, on Friday 31 January.
  
  
• Attempted robbery and possession of imitation firearm whilst committing a schedule 1 offence, in connection with an incident at William Hill in High Street, Ware on Monday 3 February.

He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear before Hatfield Remand Court today (5 February).

Detective Constable Edward Law, who is leading the investigation, said: “This has been a fast-moving investigation, exploring several lines of enquiry. Charges have now been secured and the case is progressing through the courts.”
