Officers from the Roads Policing Unit are making a re-appeal for witnesses and information, to trace the driver of a car that was involved in a serious collision on the A1M, between junctions 4 and 5, in the early hours of Saturday 21 December.
At around 4.40am a black SUV type vehicle was seen on the hard shoulder of the southbound carriageway between junctions 4 and 5 – Welwyn and Welwyn Garden City. A woman exited this vehicle, and the vehicle was then driven away.
The woman, who had a dog with her at the time, was then hit by a car on the northbound carriageway between 4.45am and 4.55am.
Officers now believe she was struck by a black Audi – possibly an A6 model.
“Following the initial appeal for witnesses a number of people made contact with us and were able to provide information, but the driver of the car which struck the woman has not been identified and has not yet come forward,” explained Detective Constable James McAlister from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who has information which may help us trace the driver, and who has not yet spoken to us. Please get in touch as soon as possible. You can provide information anonymously, if necessary, through the Crimestoppers charity.
The woman remains in hospital where she is being treated for life changing injuries and the dog was found uninjured and is with family members.
You can contact DC McAlister via email.
You can also report information online, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting ISR 147 of 21/12/24.
Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form.
If you have dash cam footage in relation to the collision, please upload this on the DAMS website.
