A woman has been banned from driving following a serious road traffic collision in Codicote last year.
The incident happened shortly before 10pm on Wednesday May 1 in Codicote Road.
Two vehicles were involved - a red Fiat 500 and a silver Ford Fiesta - with two people in the Ford taken to hospital with serious injuries.
One of the people involved, a pregnant woman now aged in her 30s, sadly lost her baby following the collision.
Ellie Austin, aged 22 and of Birchwood Close, Hatfield, was arrested and charged with two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving.
Austin pleaded guilty to the offences and on Friday 28 February was given a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was disqualified from driving for a year. After this period, Austin will be required to take an extended driving test.
Austin was also ordered to complete 70 hours of unpaid work, pay a £154 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs following a hearing at St Albans Magistrates’ Court.
PC Joe Massey, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “This was an incredibly sad case, and my thoughts remain with the family. They wish to thank members of the public who came forward with information to help the investigation.
“Ellie Austin has been held accountable for her actions on that day. Driving carelessly will not be tolerated in Hertfordshire and those who commit such offences will be dealt with.”
